Put the word out to your teachers that your library, being a school
library and not an archival one, has no space that justifies keeping
40 years of magazines that are never used. Let them know that they
will be disposed of by X date and if they want them, come and get
them. It is unlikely that any library or other institution that wants
them doesn't already have its own set. It would be a good idea to run
that communication past your principal, too, not "should I do this"
but "this needs to be done and I wanted to keep you informed." You
never know what ill-informed petty person might go running off to
him/her complaining about you and principals hate being the last to
know... sound like I've been there? Yep.
