We are basing this year's school-wide theme on Dr. Seuss. Launch was
Feb. 12 with a reenactment of the Butter Battle for the entire school.
All Yooks wore red shirts, all Zooks white. Students made banners,
composed cheers and rooted for their "side." Teachers were the actors as
one read aloud the book. March first is theme travel day when students
travel to other grade levels and participate in Seuss themed activities
in each room. Activities and games were designed by teachers & students
in each homeroom, based on the Seuss book that room chose. On the actual
day, March 2, students will put on a Seussical performance for parents,
other family, and friends. Many original skits were written and songs
composed for this event. Since the Butter Battle, students have had a
Seuss book read aloud to them, then followed up with an extension
activity. For example, Seventh grade heard On Beyond Zebra, then
invented a letter beyond z and designed a critter whose name begins with
that letter.
