I can't believe that parents were objecting to the picture of Kate jumping
into bed with her parents! If anyone would like to see the page that the
parents were objecting to, you can "Look inside the book" in Amazon.com.
Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/33wws. Go to the 4th page. It's
completely innocuous.

Thanks so much to all of you who responded, and responded so quickly. You
were mostly as mystified as I was. Most people thought that the only
possible objection may be the piercings and tattoos that the parents have. A
couple of people mentioned that the dog and the little girl are shown going
to the bathroom.

Well, are you ready for this? In my follow-up conversation with the library
aide and the principal, the reason given by these 5 parents was "sexual
content." What??? It seems that the kids wake up one morning and jump in bed
with the parents. This frightens me, what kind of mind could make that into
sexual content? Has Michael Jackson twisted us to this extreme? Sorry, I
know Michael Jackson is innocent until proven guilty -

The situation now is that the parents have pulled the book from the book
fair. The principal is totally against it but the Supt. has told her that
they can do that. If they want to remove it from the library then that's a
different story. Have any of you ever encountered this situation, where a
PTA or PTO organization wants to pull a book from a book fair? Can 5 parents
decide what everyone else should have the opportunity to buy? It is a Parent
- TEACHER organization, so can the parents have the final say?

Just yesterday I had remarked to my aide that I am so glad that in 16 years
I have never had to deal with a censorship issue. I should have known better
than to say anything!
