LM_NET Archive

Thanks for all the great suggestions. LM_net is the best thing that ever happened
to this new Media Specialist!

Field & Stream?
Maybe you have something in FLA similar to Texas Parks & Wildlife. That's the
name of both the agency & the magazine, & it is wonderful!

How about Boys' Life - they have stuff on hunting, fishing, and so on all the
time.

I was in middle school and got Cycle World a few years ago.
By the way, from 1989-1992 I was at Interlachen Elementary in Putnam. I loved
it!
Now in Virginia.

I am a high school librarian/media sp. in a fairly large semi-rural school.
For the boys, I have the ever popular Car & Driver
                        Automobile
                        Motorcyclist
                        Outdoor Life
                        Field & Stream
                        National Wildlife
                        Ohio Game &Fish

            plus Skateboarding
                            ESPN
                            SI
                            Popular Woodworking

However, they still pick up 17, Elle, Self, and the other girls' magazines
(I finally quit taking Glamour--it was definitely going overboard on the sex
topics).

Hope this helps.

By the way, I use Subscription Services of America for the magazines--cheaper
than a lot of other services.

Have a beautiful day!

Hi, I get BMX Plus and Dirt Wheels at my school, as well as Transworld
Motocross (as I mentioned in my previous note). I scan them from time to
time and I haven't seen anything offensive. They are mostly checked out
by my "country boys". My hope is that if these students learn early that
the library has materials that THEY are interested in, they will be life
long library users, and maybe discover other sections of the library.

We are in a similar setup in Wisconsin (but 6-12). We get Field and
Stream, Outdoor Life, Wisconsin Sportsman (maybe there is a local
equivalent there?), Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Petersen's 4 Wheel and
Off-Road, and Sport Truck. Occasionally Sport Truck will have a girl on
the cover, but not inside. Also a teacher donates his copies of NASCAR
illustrated and NASCAR scene (tabloid paper). Other than the occasional
cover of Sport Truck that might have to fall off ;) , they're all clean
as a whistle.

Car Craft is my most popular

any of the 4-wheeler, mud truck mags.

Popular Mechanics, computer gamer mags and CATALOGS (they are usually free)

Petersen's Hunting www.huntingmag.com

Also FREE, Air force, Marine & Army recruiter magazines...see local recruiters
or hit them up if they visit your school (also have pencils!!)

Stay AWAY from wwf (wrestling)

Hi, Leigh-

Outdoor Life and Field and Stream are popular with my hunters. ATV
Action is probably the favorite among my boys.

I hope this helps.

How about "MotoKids"? I found that one by browsing the magazine section
at Borders. I've found that to be the best way to find mgazines that
will appeal to my reluctant readers. I buy a sample and ask the kids
for their opinions. Please post a HIT.

Deer and Deer Hunting is a favorite here in the heart of white-tail deer
country.

Basketball digest ( and football, baseball, etc.) are TV guide sized mags
that are published during the season. They are full of summaries of games,
leagues, players, stats. etc. They are good for middle schoolers.
