Mike, If I understand you, you're worried about the fact that much of the "action" happens in the English department, while your expertise is in science? Either way, remember that it is the classroom teacher's expertise in the content area and your expertise in information literacy that makes for a dynamite collaboration. Over the years, I've learned a lot of curriculum in all of the disciplines through collaborative teaching, but I still rely heavily on the subject/grade specialist. What I DO consider my responsibility is to be very familiar with the content standards/frameworks for each discipline, so that I see the potential for intersection and dynamite collaborative projects. I hope you'll have a look at my Linworth secondary collaborations book. It has several really wonderful collaborative English units, but others in the content areas as well! It will, no doubt, give you some great ideas to adopt or adapt from some of the smartest and most accomplished secondary LMS's working across the country, most of whom belong to LM_NET!
