Thanks for all the help for my serial reader husband - 30 people
responded!!! I knew library media specialists would have good ideas and be
willing to share them. The best advice I got was to have him go to the
State sponsored site called ICONN and have him use NoveList - the site has a
button called "What do I read next?" - Red faced I must admit I have used it
with the students at school but as it is summer my school persona is on
vacation and it never occurred to me to suggest it to him.

Others suggested using the Amazon and Barnes and Noble sites to get
recommendations - I had suggested this to him but he turned it down as not
meeting his needs.

 Some other suggestions were:

Gnooks.com is a great site for just what your husband is looking for!

Most public libraries have a Gale reference book called What Do I Read Next?
(or maybe even a database?) the purpose of which is to provide exactly the
type of reader's advisory that you have described. It suggests similar
authors and also titles in various genres. Send your husband to the public
library in your area and I'm sure they will be able to help him.

The staff of the Multnomah County Library of Portland, Oregon lists more
than 70 thrillers under five different headings: Adventure, Legal, Medical,
Suspense, and Techno. The list is dated September, 2000.

This link if from our county library-- there are several lists here
including a search by authors, NY Times and ALA list as well as a list of
book in series in the order that they were written. Hope this
helps.http://www.kdl.org/books/index.asp

I don't really know of any free websites that offer this, but you can
probably find lists on the web made by libraries if you search. I almost
always check NYPL(www.nypl.org) and LAPL
(www.lapl.org) websites for these kinds of lists.

I was thinking that our public library had something like that for adults
that is published quarterly? It was in the reference area and I used it
once years ago - when I ACTUALLY read adult fiction and got all sorts of
other authors to investigate. I will check the next time I am there and get
a title of the book for you

And lots of people had similar tastes or spouses with similar taste in
reading material and sent suggestions for him:

Have him try John Lescroart, Steven White and James Grippando. Many of
their books have the same characters. I do the same thing, read everything I
can by one author before moving on (and get upset when there's nothing
left!).

My husband tends to read serials also. He loves the books by W.E.B.
Griffin. Each of his series features a different branch of the military.

Since all of us are reader's advisors, or wannabes, tell your husband that I
recommend Larry Bond if he likes Clancy. I like techno-thrillers too, and
Bond has written some good ones. I always await Clancy's next novel. Too bad
the last one was so horrible!

Below is what NoveList recommended for two of the authors you listed in your
email. I'd highly encourage your husband to look at David Baldacci's books-
they are great reads! (This is a long list so I deleted it as this HIT is
long enough as it is, but if anyone is interested in the list I will send it
to you directly instead of to the whole listserv)

My husband is the same. Here are some others he's liked:

Dale Brown
Lawrence Sanders
Stuart Woods
Robert Parker
Tony Hillerman

Personally, I think he would like James Patterson. Patterson has a few
series. I like the ones about the lady detectives: "The Women's Murder
Club pits four San Francisco women professionals a serial killer who's
stalking and murdering newlyweds in bestselling author James Patterson's
newest thriller." (Amazon.com) They are 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, and 3rd
Degree.

Your husband may enjoy the Alex Cross series about " a black Washington,
D.C., police detective with a Ph.D. in psychology."
