If you designed the characters, the logo, etc., you own it.  Your choice to
separate the characters from one another is your choice---a creative choice.
Separating the characters (because one may provide a better presentation for
another avenue of publicity) would be perfectly legal--- see Disney, for
example.....Minnie can be separated from Mickey (or as my 7-year old might
explain, "Scooby Doo without Shaggy and "the gang"!)
