THANKS to ALL who sent in suggestions. I'll let you read and tell you at = the bottom what did work.=20 You guys are super! I went in early this a.m. and looked at the laptop = and tried a few things and ONE did work great! Read the great suggestions = below and what I did is last. Thanks so much! Cynthia=20 Try changing the resolution of your screen, if you can...also try = turning on the projector, then the laptop. That helped one time when I was = having trouble getting things to work. It seems the projector couldn't fine the signal when it was on after the laptop. =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D =3D -Try the F4 key a couple of times. That cycles the image out through the projector. That works with my laptop/projector.=20 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D We don't have a Sony but try: turning on projector before computer OR IF NECESSARY, use the INPUT switch on the top of the LCD Projector to = find a setting to pick up the computer screen OR go to the control strip icons = on the bottom right corner of the desktop and select the following: = Graphics options/Output to/Intel =AE Dual Display Twin/Monitor + Notebook I will be interested to see what does work! =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D My husband often uses a laptop with a projector, so I asked for his = advice: First, if you aren't already doing so, it's usually best to hook up and = then start the projector prior to booting up the computer to help ensure that = the computer recognizes the equipment. Next, you may need to toggle between monitor settings with the function key. My computer toggles between = Monitor, Monitor + Screen, or Screen by holding down the Function key and = pressing F7. This may not relate or may be totally common knowledge & have nothing to = do with the situation but, just in case, I'll toss it in/out. I couldn't = tell from your message if you could see the XP loading on the laptop or on = the screen or both. Have you tried the function key that shows the monitor? It might be F4 = or F7 -- it's not the same on all of our school laptops. Anyway, if you hold = down Control & hit that function key, it toggles back & forth so you can show = on the screen, just on the monitor or both. Another thing, check the projector to make sure it's on RGB - try 1 & 2. Someone might have used it with a vcr & have it on video. And here's the last little smidgen (sp?) of my knowledge. Some of the projectors are = picky about which is turned on first, the computer or the projector. Try = turning the projector on first maybe? Or try both. Also take the cable out to = make sure none of the pins are bent. It could be the cable is bad. Then there's always the unplug everything & let it all sit for 30 min. before trying again! Sometimes that works wonders! =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Have you tried these two keys? Fn (for Function) at the lower left and = F8 at the top on the laptop? Sometimes, you must turn the LCD projector on first before turning on the laptop. Please let me know if this works. = Good luck! =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D =3D=3D=3D=3D Have you tried holding down the function key (maybe FN on the lower = left?), and also pressing F5 at the same time.=20 Try hitting Fn/F8 -- that's what works on mine. On my dell, I press function and f4! =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D I'm not a laptop user, but this happened at our school and this is what = I learned: there should be a function key (f8? maybe other with each = different company) with a little picture of a monitor/keyboard or some such- press it, it should toggle from "display image on laptop" to = "display image on projector". hope this helps,=20 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D This may not help you, but my first laptop and projector were real = finicky about the order I turned everything on. Try F8 (press the Function key and then F8).=20 If F8 doesn't work, the other thing you do, is go to = Start>Settings>Control Panel>Display>Advanced>Displays>click on the picture of the TV. It=20 Panel>Display>Advanced>Displays>should show up through the projector but your laptop monitor will be blue.=20 One thing I accidentally discovered was that my desktop is "extended" = and I have no idea how that happened. My laptop was connected to the projector = and it was blue on the big screen. I dragged a website to the far, far right = and the website was showing up less on the laptop monitor but was showing up = on the big screen. I can't figure out how to "unextend" the desktop. I = called Dell tech support. They said to reinstall the video driver.
