Today our school had a talent show which was attended by many parents and
the students as well. After the show I was asked by the office staff if I
could make copies of the tape we made (to later show again to the students on the
last day) and sell them to the parents who had asked about getting a copy. I
told them that since the music used was copyrighted it could not be done and
sold. I also did not feel that privacy issues would allow it, but couldn't find
anything to back that up in my hasty look through a book on copyright issues.
Finally, even if copyright was not an issue, I did not have the time to do it
for many parents were asking.
How do you handle this at your school? I would appreciate replies from
the copyright experts on this list as well as a diplomatic way to say "no."
Thank you.
