Target: Need Title

Hello All,

I am looking for the title of a book I read when I was much younger.  In the book, 
a man sets off to go around the world in his hot air balloon.  He crashes on an 
unchartered island, I believe called Krakotoa.  The island is full of diamonds and 
precious gems that are enourmous in size.  Their are also natives on the island.  
The man plots to get rich from all of these large jewels, but the island disappears 
after an earthquake and volcanic eruption.  Ring any bells?
