Dear all …

Interesting that the same discussion should also be on our Australian
equivalent of LM_net. The full list of (Australian) responses is in the
oztl_net archives, but in summary it seems that the balance of opinion is
(as one person put it) “library is a building, not a subject”. To grade
“library” makes even less sense than grading “lunch” or “toilet” …

In some Australian elementary schools, the teacher librarians’ “grading” of
“library” is restricted to borrowing statistics (who knows what use that is
to anyone!); others have formal “library lessons”. In Best Practice schools
(100% CPT) the library’s role is in supporting teaching and learning – the
cooperative lessons may be assessed in tandem between the TL and the
classroom teacher – but the grade shown on the report is for the subject or
class, not the “library component”.

Hope this helps?
