Young Adult Library Services Association
Executive Director

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of The
American Library Association, is seeking an Executive Director.  YALSA's
mission is to advocate, promote, and strengthen service to young adults
as part of the continuum of library service, and to support those who
provide library services to young adults.  YALSA has a membership of
over 4,000 and a broad array of programs and services.

The YALSA Executive Director will be responsible for day-to-day
management of the division, including a staff of 2 and a budget in
excess of $350,000, various ongoing and special projects, a quarterly
journal, e-newsletter, an active publications program and other ongoing
programs, including two major author awards and the successful Teen Read
Week.  As a division of ALA, YALSA is responsible for generating the
revenue to support staff, operations and all programmatic activities.

The YALSA Executive Director will report to the Senior Associate
Executive Director, ALA, and will work collaboratively with staff and
members in all areas of the Association.  The YALSA Executive Director
will join the ALA Member Programs and Services Team, including executive
directors of eleven ALA divisions, as well as directors of ALA program
offices, ALA Conference Services and ALA Information Technology and
Telecommunications, as well as the ALA-APA Director.

Qualifications:  Master's degree from an ALA-recognized library
education program; experience with library services for young adults in
a public, school or other setting; experience supervising staff and
working with teams; outstanding communication skills; strong
organizational skills; entrepreneurial skills and history; and, ability
to develop and maintain effective working relationships with members,
staff, funders, vendors and cooperating organizations.  Experience
working with volunteer boards and revenue-based budgets is desirable.

Salary:  Negotiable between $62,463 and $75,000, based on experience.
