My perception is that the job market for school media specialists is
very tight in Minnesota due to tight budgets and poor state funding. So
if all else fails, your friend might consider looking into other types
of libraries. I was cut from a high school media position in 1993 and
worked for 5 years for a state agency library before once again landing
a school media job. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot; while it was
a nice break from the routine of a school year, I missed working with
staff and students so was glad to get back into a school setting.
