I did a great lesson on the Dewey Decimal System. I
explained how each number means something - the same
as they do in math class. I demonstrated the 700's
and then gave them the classifications for US history
and let them assign numbers to titles.

How about consolidating the decimal system by teaching the kids how to
find
and shelve books in the NF section ... and making couples responsible
for
keeping a particular shelf in order
Or giving the students a portion of your book-buying budget to spend on
titles suitable for them ....
Or mapping a rearrangement of a section of the library to give them a
special area
Or collecting and mapping data of your circ stats to see which types of
books are borrowed most by each age group to help you plan your budget
...
Or mapping the NF area to see the strengths and weaknesses ... or the
fairy
tales area to see what you need to replace or provide
Or creating a maths-based display ...students can be given a
maths-based
problem and record the processes and resources they used to solve it
