Hello, The Ontario Library Association has a reading initiative called A Forest of Reading. There are ten Canadian books chosen for each category listed below. Participants read at least five of the selections to qualify to vote for their favorite book. The voting takes place in April and May, depending on the program. Blue Spruce is for children ages 5 to 8 (Kindergarten through Grade 3). Silver Birch is for children ages 8 to 11 (Grades 4 to 6). Silver Birch includes a Fiction and a Non-Fiction option. Red Maple is for children 11 to 15 (Grades 7 to 9). I am curious to know if similar programs exist in other provinces and states, what they are called, and how they are implemented.
