Summer reading program

I've been asked to run a 6 week summer fun reading program at my school
for our local rec. department.  There will be 2 or 3 groups of kids each
day, meeting for an hour at a time.  The kids will be K-grade 6, but
probably broken down into two age groups.  The general idea, I think, is
to have weekly themes such as, Fun at the Beach, Fairy Tales, cooking
and books.  Id love to hear any suggestions (or horror stories) if
anyone has ever tried such a program. Thanks.
