I read the previous posts about this book being "questioned" and saw it
last night at my daughters' book fair. Of course, I read it right there and
bought it! What a wonderful and touching book. I am continually amazed at
what some parents find objectionable, especially in picture books! Maybe
it was the page where Kate is going to the bathroom, or the fact that mom
is tattooed and pierced, but I can't even believe that it is because the
girl is on her parents' bed!! I 'booktalked' it to anyone who would listen
last night, and will do the same if it comes to our spring book fair -
because it is a charming book - OK, maybe I'm kinda partial to the mom in
the book since I, too, am tattooed and pierced! (Wonder if the mom is also
a school librarian?! ..mmmmm...)
