There are a few teachers at my school that seem to think Reading Counts is a pain because 1) students are constantly asking to take RC quizzes; 2) some kids get more points than other students; and 3) they only read RC fiction books (even though more than 85% of the collection is RC, so it is pretty good selection of literature). =20 I like the way I have set the program up for each grade because each grade is asked to reach reading goals in increments of a set number of points. For instance, third has goals of 15, 30, 45, etc. Whenever they meet a "goal," they get a small prize. Books are now flying off the shelves, and students are reading more than I ever dreamed possible. My aide and I are shelving almost 700 books a month! What can I do to really "sell" the program to teachers? What can I do to show them that Reading Counts can be a vital part of their teaching (and inspiring) students to read? What do you do? TIA!
