I have used a book called Toddle on Over.

I love our Pre-K students. I use the Mr. Wiggles book to discuss care
of books. We issue each child a 2.5 gallon ziplock bag with his/her
name on it so they can keep their library books in the bag. That helps
with preventing damage to the books. We check out one book to each
child every day. We want to develop that library habit early. They
really look forward to their library visit. =3D20

I also have story time for them (A.M. and P.M. classes) once a week.
They always love to check out the books we read to them. Their
favorites are the Clifford books. =3D20

Our school currently has a PreK-4 class and will be adding a PreK-3 =3D
class=3D20
next year. For their weekly library visits, I theme my program around =
=3D
their=3D20
weekly themes. Most PreK teachers arrange their curriculum =3D
themataically=3D20
(such as holidays, seasons, community helpers, etc.). I get a copy of =
=3D
the=3D20
yearly theme plan in Sept. and use it for my planning. They come to the =
=3D

library weekly for 30 minutes. I read one or two stories based on their =
=3D

theme for the week and I leave about 8-10 minutes for book selection =
(I=3D20
always display books relating their theme, but they are allowed to =3D
choose=3D20
any book from the library). I do not allow them to take library books =
=3D
home,=3D20
they are used by the children in their classroom (usually during rest =
=3D
time=3D20
and center time). I used to let them take them home, but there was a =
=3D
lot of=3D20
trouble with losing them. If there is still is time left, we will sing =
=3D
some=3D20
songs, play a game ("Doggie, Doggie, Where's My Bone" is a favorite), or =
=3D

sometimes I plan a small art project relating to the book I have read.

For library oreintation at the beginning of the year, I spend time on =
=3D
"how=3D20
to be a good listener", have individual mats for them to sit on during =
=3D
story=3D20
time (to keep them in one place!), and use Mr. Wiggle to talk about book =
=3D

care. I do not do anything with library organization- I find they =3D
usually=3D20
take one of the books I have on display or one from the special =3D
collections=3D20
which are not kept in any order (such as Arthur, Berenstain Bears, I =3D
Spy,=3D20
etc.). I treat their class as a traditional storyhour program.

I do have an aide when they visit- the bathroom is down the hall and =3D
they=3D20
must be escorted to it. My class is a prep time for the classroom =3D
teacher.

Hope this helps. I was a PreK teacher for 11 years before I became =
the=3D20
school librarian and finds this works best for me!

I have an Early Childhood class (age 3-5, special needs) and a=3D20
4-yr-kindergarten class each week. We do have the teacher or aide =
stay=3D20
with the class. The EC class comes for 15 minutes, and the 4-yr-K for =
=3D
20=3D20
minutes. After the first month or two the teacher no longer stays with =
=3D
the=3D20
4-yr-K class. We begin the year by talking about borrowing and =3D
returning a=3D20
book, and we do send a letter home with each student the first week. We =
=3D

preselect a small group of books that the students choose from for=3D20
borrowing, and put them on a special cart, or on a table. During the =
=3D
year=3D20
I do a storytime each week, striving to use appropriate stories. The =
=3D
books=3D20
I use for EC are usually very short and often are some type of =
concept=3D20
books. I can give you a partial list of ones I use if you are =3D
interested.
