ELEM: Sports Biographies

I followed the discussion recently on location of biographies.  Mine are
under "B" in their own section.  It was easier to leave them this way when I
took over a few short months ago.  My question is regarding biographies
about sports figures.  The previous librarian was not consistent in putting
them in B or 796.  Thus, I have Jones and Owens in "B", but Esiason and
Jordan in 796.xx.  I would like to make a correction, but don't know if
collective wisdom dictates they be in 796.xx or B.  My thought is to put
them in 796.xx.  Please share your thoughts and reasoning with me.  TIA!
