How do you classify your graphic novels? In looking at several catalogs on the web, some use F (or FIC), some use 741.5, some use a prefix of GN. My knee-jerk reaction is that (1) they will get lost among the F collection (we don't have very many yet); (2) they aren't the same kind of material as what I currently have in 741.5 (examinations of a particular comic's development, not a fictional story itself); (3) and for GN, how easily will the kids be able to locate yet another prefix. As you can see, I don't have an answer yet. I am leaning toward the prefix GN, so the call number would look like: GN F MAR which would allow for some future instance of it _not_ being fiction, say a graphic version of Texas History. So, how do you classify yours? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Melissa Davis Librarian Splendora Middle School phone: 281-689-2853 Splendora, Tx 77372 fax: 281-689-8445 work: mbdavis@splendora.k12.tx.us home: mbdavis@tenet.edu "The fates guide those who go willingly; those who do not, they drag." - Seneca If librarians ruled the world reading would be a varsity sport! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
