A colleague gave me a great idea for providing students with access to
USER IDs and PASSWORDS, while maintaining security. In the past we
provided laminated strips which may or may not have made it home.
Creating them took a lot of time.

Here is an easy solution (provided you have access to Adobe
Acrobat--not the Reader, but the full-blown version).

You can create a PDF file listing all of the databases and the
accompanying USERIDs and PASSWORDS. I created mine originally in a table
in Word and the converted it to a PDF file. Adobe Acrobat allows you to
add document security. I selected one password easy enough to remember.
You then put a link to the PDF file on your web site. When someone
clicks on the link a box will pop-up asking for the password. If they
type it right, but in the wrong case, a message will pop up telling them
to check the cap-locks key (a common problem).

We tried it out with a class yesterday and they thought it was cool.

Just thought I would share.
