I have a book at home called "The Dirks Escape" about a scientist who escaped
finally to Berlin. Just after the war ended there was very little paper and
pencils, so he would go to the river and calculate his formulas in the sand and
then transfer to paper. He eventually went to work for the Rand Corporation. I
don't remember the publisher, author, or copyright date.
