Greetings! A fifth grade teacher asked my opinion on whether she had a problem with her National Board entry. She had her class write a story using their favorite character from their favorite book as the main character. She wanted to use this technique so students would analyze the characterization and maintain the personality, motives, physical traits to learn about the reciprocal nature of reading and writing. Would this be fair use? For those familiar with National Board critiquing, should she explain in her narrative that this would be fair use? Thanks for your advice; her deadline is looming...
