I'm doing a unit on the Dewey classification system and the arrangement of fiction in the library. This is for fifth and sixth graders. My biggest problem is that I planned to teach them how to search for materials using the online catalog but I have high school students in the library next week doing a project using our computers at the same times. What I think I'd like to do is have my 5th and 6th graders do a worksheet that allows them to put things in order on paper. (Which is probably the best way to start anyway...) Does anyone have anything already created that they would be willing to share? I've done some searches online and found the wonderful Dewey websites that I will allow them to use later for extra practice but we won't have access to the computers, so we're back to paper, pencil and the hunting books on the shelves the "old fashioned way." If anyone can share, please respond off list to me at either my school or home address (listed below). If you have something available online or know of websites with worksheets, please let me know. I haven't done thorough research of the availability of Dewey or fiction order worksheets because I just found out that we had a conflict...and I need something for 80 fifth graders first thing Monday morning!
