Mary,
I voted no because as you pointed out it goes against everything library =
school teaches as well as everything I personally believe. The book =
would be a great way to introduce different lifestyles to younger =
children in a tolerant and caring manner. Shying away from tackling =
subject matter with a younger audience just makes it more difficult to =
introduce to an older audience. How can a book about the search for =
self-identity and love be wrong? Of course this is just my humble =
opinion. Thanks for bringing up an interesting topic!

Hi.

In Southeastern North Carolina, we recently had a huge hubbub over a
book in one of our elementary school libraries.

Here is a short description of the book. It was deemed appropriate for
ages 6 and up.

In the book, a queen tells her single son, Prince Bertie, that she had
already been married twice at his age. The prince dismisses a line of
eligible princesses before finally falling for Prince Lee. The final
page of the book shows the two princes kissing with a red heart covering
their lips.

The end result of a parent complaining was that King and King was
pulled from the shelf.

This seems to go against everything I have been taught in my library
and information science classes.

What do all of you think?

I would love it if we could get some more votes on this.

Just go to this webpage
http://www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage

At the very bottom left there is a place to vote.

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I think it is important.
