Chris: Froogle has been online since December 13, 2003. Today, Googe added a link to it on the Google homepage BUT removed a link to the Google Directory. This might be a good opportunity for some of you to become familiar with a few of the impressive non-commercial web directories available online. They include Infomine, Librarians Index to the Internet, AcademicInfo.net, and the Resource Discovery Network. Also, many people have been asking about a clutter-free, ad-free version of Yahoo the Yahoo search interface. Well, it exists! In fact, you can customize it to show only the other Yahoo databases you're interested in. It's at: http://search.yahoo.com Yahoo also offers an excellent shopping database. In fact, they offer a tool called SmartSort that allows you to change results for a few product categories by simply moving levers. It works well. http://shopping.yahoo.com/smartsort/ Finally, in terms of searching news, both Yahoo and a new and WONDERFUL search tool called Topix.net search more news sources than Google News. Yahoo News covers 7000 sources. http://news.yahoo.com Topix.net covers more than 6000. http://www.topix.net Even more impressive is the fact that Topix offers a "pre-built" pages for over 150,000 topics including a page for every Zip Code. I think Topix is an excellent tool for educators. cheers, gary p.s. Have you seen Google Catalogs? http://catalogs.google.com Gary D.
