Carol Simpson spoke about this issue just last week at the AISL meeting in
Dallas. She did question whether turnitin has the rights to retain copies
of a student's paper; however, the student basically does give up some
rights when he / she submits it to the company as a part of the requirements
for the course. I'm wondering how long it will take before a student brings
a case against Turnitin rather than the school district (which we've seen
recently)--after all, that's where the money is....

In addition, Dr. Simpson spoke about teachers keeping copies of students'
work. She told us that it WAS ILLEGAL for us to keep copies of students'
work WITHOUT the consent of the parent / guardian / student.

How many of us are thinking this one through? (I'm ready for more insights
on this issue....Dr. Simpson???)
