My son's school has limited parking with seniors having priority. They
drive every other day so they team with a neighbor or friend. Juniors may
park in the driving range except for October and April. There is a lot
across the street the city allows the students to use and many juniors
overflow park there and seniors if they really need to drive that day.
Junior and overflow is all first come - first served even with parking
stickers. Range drivers are also every other day.
The seniors decided to make sure the juniors would remember them. The
seniors are the first group of students to go four years in the school and
wanted something fun yet memorable. They went to the admin and told them
what they planned then went to all the teachers who had juniors first hour
that day and asked them not to plan anything major especially not tests.
Then, the night before, all the kids that drove for the odd day parked their
cars in the overflow lot while even day seniors gave them rides home. The
range was closed as it was April. The juniors had no where to park when
they arrived. They had to go home and cram into shuttles the seniors had
set up. Several seniors camped out over night. The principal told them he
would have joined them for breakfast had they told him they were cooking
out.
I was amazed that the teachers, admin and seniors were all able to keep it
so quiet. Seems as though someone would have told. It was well planned and
the juniors will definitely remember them. Some teachers were upset but
they were the ones that weren't in the loop and felt the admin should have
stopped it. If it had been less well planned maybe, but sometimes you have
to roll with it so something horrible doesn't happen. They had extra cops
in the parking lot to help with traffic and teachers everywhere. The
juniors are already talking about what they can do and have been warned it
needs to be well within bounds. The admin hasn't set them, but the students
seem to know there are some lines not crossed. The admin, teachers and
students have a great relationship and that was why this worked. At a
school with plenty of parking, this wouldn't even be a prank. Now if the
kids concentrated on their homework as much as they did on the logistics of
this prank.................................
Happy graduation everyone.
