TARGET: Book recommendations similar to Catcher in the Rye

Hello, all!
I have a friend who is looking for recommendations of books for her HS =
son who's favorite book is Catcher in the Rye. I checked the archives, =
and while there were a lot of entries with Catcher, most were about =
banned books. Here is the request:

"Is it possible for you to put on your librarian hat (even though they =
don't usually wear hats) and look up CATCHER IN THE RYE and see what =
other books are recommended for folks that think CATCHER is the BEST =
BOOK THEY"VE EVER READ and NOTHING CAN COMPARE (that would be the voice =
of all-knowing Riley).?....just in your FREE (haha) time. thanks....."

So if any of you are wearing your librarian hats and can help me out, =
I'd be so appreciative (I've given her several Chris Crutcher books, =
including his memoir).
