Last night at book fair a mom asked for help finding a book from the '70's. Here is 
the information she gave me: mystery, main character a girl, living in a house, 
setting : San Francisco? or someplace hilly, mystery had something to do with 
carvings in shutters, perhaps doves. The character did not recognize that it was 
her own house because birds had nested in the carvings. I searched novelist and 
came up dry.
