I am at a middle school library, grades 6-8, and recently went through a formal book challenge. (Fortunately the committee unanimously voted to keep the book, Feeling Sorry For Celia, on the shelf.) Although we have a reconsideration of materials policy in place, what we DON'T have included in it is any kind of reinstatement policy. Had the committee decided to pull Feeling Sorry from the shelf, it would in essence be gone for good. For those of you with reconsideration policies in place, what kind of reinstatement policy do you have? Can a parent, teacher, or student try to get the banned book back into the library? After how many years? And how would that person go about trying? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
