For any schools that want to give their students a
Thanksgiving Day treat the next contact between school
students and the crew aboard the International Space
Station will take place Wednesday, 24 November 2004.
Students at Westhampton Beach Elementary School,
Westhampton Beach, New York, USA will speak directly to
the space station crew via amateur radio beginning about
1815 UTC or 1:15pm local time. This will be the first
North American contact of the school year.

Anyone with a radio (scanner or ham radio) can tune in the
space station side of the contact on 145.80 MHz. The ISS
callsign is NA1SS and the school’s station is W2AMC. The
ISS should be audible to areas of southern New England,
parts of the Mid-Atlantic, and southern Ontario and
Quebec.

The entire contact takes about 10 minutes as the space
station passes overhead. For further information on this
and other upcoming contacts, take a look at

ARISS is an international educational outreach program
with US participation from NASA, AMSAT (The Amateur
Satellite Radio Corp.), and the American Radio Relay
League. ARISS offers an opportunity for students to
experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking
directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space
Station. Teachers, parents and communities experience,
first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can
energize youngsters' interest in science, technology, and
learning. Further information on the ARISS programme is
available on the website http://www.rac.ca/ariss
