I asked a few days ago for web sites to gather information to support weeding in a presentation that I was to make to PTA. My assistant principal is outraged at the information that I presented showing how out of date our collection is. She currently will not speak to myself or the principal, who is the person that asked me to do the presentation in the first place. The assistant principal, even after hearing the information (gathered through Follet's collection analysis... it is free and easy to do) and other facts that I compiled, does not think we should discard any books. "These books have been circulating and there is no reason to throw them out now." One book I picked up fell into 3 parts. I don't have enough tape and glue to put it back together. Needless to say the response from her is not supportive, and tension is in the air as the collection gets more dated. I should say I am new to this school this year and am just walking into a neglected media center wit! h no program. I have not created the mess, and it makes me sad that others in the school before me let it get to the state it is in.
