I'm so sorry! This HIT is long overdue. My deliquence is not indicative =
of my appreciation for all who helped me with this information. There is =
an interesting assortment about the suggestions. Many people asked for a =
HIT so finally.... here it is:

ORIGINAL POSTING:

Hi,

A friend of mine is in need a some suggestions for a bibliography for a =
women's studies class. I have exalted this group to her on many occasions,=

so she asked if I would solicit your help.

She is looking for women's authors and illustrators for all levels as the =
purpose seems to be to study the messages relayed to little girls as well =
as women through literature.

TOPICS: little girl struggles, adolescent struggles, and even, big girl =
struggles, gender issues, etc.
Books may be biographies, non-fiction, or even fiction that deal with =
women's topics.

The following suggestions were sent to me. =20
Norton Book of Women's Lives edited by Phyllis Rose (has pieces of famous =
and unknown Women's biographies)

Books by Margaret Atwood (Cat's Eye, The Robber Bride)

Women's Words: 75 Books by Women=20
Whose Words Have Changed the World

New book out last year --- positive affirmation --- "Girl You're Amazing" =
by
Virginia Kroll

There is one about African American women also but the name and author =
escapes
me now.....it is for upper elementary.......?????

There is a series on Women Explorers for elementary students as well.

One by Kathleen Krull that bio's several Extraordinary Women.

I'm at home and my brain is fried...twelve hour day at work. If I have =
time
tomorrow I will email more specific information.

There is a great deal of work being done in this area. For a start, I
could recommend the Amelia Bloomer Project
