Like most librarians I have a short list of companies that I have
ordered from for years. In the last year or two I have started ordering a
few hard to find titles from Amazon using our school business account. As I
was working on my new book list for this year I have begun to notice a
disturbing trend. Books from Amazon are running about $2.50 per title lower
than jobbers like Sagebrush (formally Econoclad), Follett, and others. Some
titles are as much as $10.00 less.

I am in a quandary as to what to do. Ordering all our books from
Amazon will save hundreds of dollars and I will not have to have so many
different orders since nearly everything is available. Amazon is also
quicker. Last year I waited for over 6 months before the bulk of my jobber
order was filled. The year was almost over before the final shipment came
and then only because of repeated calls to the company.

The downside, however, is that I will have to do all the cataloging
and processing myself. (We don't have centralized cataloging and
processing.) Has anyone tried ordering exclusively from Amazon? Is there a
company that will provide MARC record disks for lists of books?
