We have a similar problem here with the freshmen. We offer tutorial. We have a peer mentoring program called Link Crew. The principal call all the failing students in for a group meeting (the "Come-to-Jesus" meeting). Then the counselors and vice-principal call in individuals and parents. We send out progress reports every 4-5 weeks. Some of them just don't believe that we will fail them. They have skated through 8 years of school without really working. We do what we can but at some point you have to let them fail and suffer the consequences. A few Fs on the report card should get the kid's and the parents' attention. ---- Tony Doyle, Librarian Livingston High School, Livingston, CA tdoyle@muhsd.k12.ca.us <Http://www.lhs.muhsd.k12.ca.us/library/index.htm> "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture.
