I got another question from a teacher. Below is the question and my first response. Any other thoughts? Sarah S. Uthoff Reference Librarian Kirkwood Community College Cedar Rapids, IA uthoff@infionline.net Question: >I'm looking for an effective way to show students how to find the best children's >books in particular curriculum areas online for their second group project. The >way I find books now seems so haphazard. For example, I do a Google search and >put in "best children's books about math." That certainly produces some helpful >results. I wonder, though, if there is a better way to approach it. > My first reaction: I'll think about it some more, but my first instinct in cases like this is since you can't be an expert in everything, ask those who are. In other words, there are curriculum supporting organizations such as National Council for the Social Studies, National Council of Teachers of English, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, etc. These have websites and, for example, NCSS comes out with a list of the best and most useful trade books to use in teaching social studies each year. This webpage gives links to many of those organizations and some other educational groups. http://www.ed.gov/about/contacts/gen/othersites/associations.html -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
