As regular subscribers to LM_NET already know, Educational Development Center (aka EDC) was awarded an NSDL grant to build an online resource for children ages 11-15 that will guide them through an exploration of careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). We've completed Phase I and are now exploring grant possibilities for Phase II. To that end, we are looking for specialists and curricumlum heads who would like to be part of our advisory board. Phase II of the project will serve as a pilot/proof concept for other NSDL collections on the integration of career content in K-16+ STEM education. This proof of concept will focus on an audience of middle school educators, CaREN content and IT careers. We will , the workshops will align with our primary goals to increase use of the site through its introduction to middle school educators, and to develop the engagement and interest of private industry for future sustainability. Workshops will be attended by middle educators and IT professionals, and facilitated by project staff." Here's what it would entail: Defining the needs of educators and employers that will be addressed through workshops Outlining a framework for workshops. We envision that these workshops will function to increase use of the site through its introduction to middle school educators, and to develop the engagement and interest of private industry for future sustainability. Workshops will be attended by middle educators and IT professionals, and facilitated by project staff. Assisting in sustainability planning Focus is on teacher needs and career knowledge, how to best introduce the portal, etc, with a few meetings via conference calls.
