This course is for the Library Media Specialist who is 
trying to strengthen collaboration activities between the 
Media Center and the classroom. The course will examine ways 
to make collaboration a success whether in a fixed or 
flexible schedule environment and explore strategies to work 
effectively with administrators in creating adaptive 
schedules from early primary to high school. Explore ways to 
support content area and information literacy standards and 
utilize the Big6 information problem solving model and other 
best practices for developing information literacy skills.

* Teaching Young Adult Literature (gr.6-12)

This course focuses on building an appreciation of young 
adult literature (grades 6-12) and developing activities for 
critical thinking. Expand your knowledge of the culture of 
the teen-age reader, genres of literature and integration of 
young adult literature as an integral part of the classroom 
and library media center curriculum.

* Advocacy and Emerging Issues for Media Specialists

Discuss advocacy and other critical issues facing the school 
library media profession. Develop practical strategies for 
coping with change, becoming a staff development leader in 
information and educational technology, and develop outreach

information books-- from folk and fairy tales to stories,

* Problem Based Learning with WebQuests

Explore how to replace students' low-level "copy and paste" 
thinking with an inquiry-based approach that focuses on 
using information rather than looking for it, and supports 
learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis, and 
evaluation. Projects will be Web-based and will incorporate 
the principles of problem-based learning (PBL), support 
content area and information literacy standards, and utilize 
the Big6 information problem solving model. This class is 
designed for teachers, media specialists, and special 
educators in any and all content areas, grades 2-12 who are 
novice, intermediate, and advanced Internet users.

education, talented and gifted, and English language 
learners. Designed for K-12 classroom teachers, special 
education and ESL teachers, speech clinicians, media
