LM_NET Archive



At our school, we teach the kindergarteners how to use the catalog, write down
the book's "address" (call number confuses them because they don't all have
numbers :-), and then we help guide them to the books.  Popular series have a
stuffed animal/character to help with location sitting near the shelf.  For our
second graders, we've created a book mark that lists all our popular beginning
chapter books and series books in both the E and F sections.  I write only the
name of the series and the author's name.  Then, I underline the first three
letters of the author's last name, so that the kids know what they are looking
for.  I want them to start making that connection that the three letters on the
spine label are the beginning of the author's last name.  This works really
well for us.
