I agree with Shonda. I worked on many College Bound committees with
ALA -that produced the final book. Should be something for everyone there...
We use it here for our listings that "books all students should have read
before they graduate" with our seniors.

YALSA also offers a book entitled: "Outstanding Books for the College
Bound: Choices for a Generation" that includes outstanding books from
different decades-- including the classics that you've mentioned. The
book includes fiction, non-fiction, biographies, plays, music, theater,
film and television that should be read / seen by students.

The book is 216 pages long, so there's bound to be a great wealth of
titles (classics and contemporary classics) that you could share with
them.

I purchased my copy through Follett but you can also purchase it through
ALA-- YALSA.

Another teacher and I are interested in compiling a list of "classics"
that students should be familiar with before they enter college.
Although we teach in middle school, we want to encourage our students to
read some of the easier books (such as Call of the Wild and Jane Eyre)
and have a list that they can take on to high school.

I am aware of YALSA's list; however their current list is focused on
recently published titles, not on classics. What I'm looking for are
lists that have already been created so that we can have some sort of
reference guide to look at.

Thanks,
Paige
