I think I agree with Shonda after reading these restrictions... In fact, my library is probably cursed as it is now as my shelves are quite dusty - and all the religious books are resting there. Any dusting to be done in this library is done by me - and if I can convince them- the library club. Therefore, dust rules often. So, Shonda - leave it where it is - and we can claim - that's where the break off Dewey number rests. Plus my shelves aren't eve wood but metal.... who in his/her right mind put metal shelves in this library wasn't thinking correctly. Plus, there are several inches of space between the wall and the shelf - so books often drop down to the nether regions...Makes me feel almost dirty shelving at time.. thanks for this posting, Shonda..... makes an excellent clarification. Based upon the information that I've read, the rules regarding the use of the Koran states that it must be: Wrapped in a cloth and placed in a box. Kept separate from all non-holy books. Placed on a separate wooden shelf for use. Not be used by anyone who has not "purified themselves"-- ceremonial ritual Not to have other books placed on it or above it. Be placed on the top shelf of a bookcase (at home). Not to be laid on the ground. Not to be used by women who are "unclean". Older copies must never be thrown away-- they must be wrapped in cloth and buried or burned. Because I cannot guarantee that all who use the Koran will abide by these rules, I think I'm being neutral in this situation by treating it as I would all other books in the library. ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX briscos@trinityvalleyschool.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
