Just a FYI--- I just happened to have a visit with an Imam in our area for Staff Development. I told him about this posting that has been showing on LM-Net. Regarding placement of the Koran, he said: 1) The Koran, if it is written entirely in Arabic, may not be placed on the floor for it is considered "pure and holy." It should be on the top shelf. 2) If the Koran is written in Arabic with the translation in another language, or if it is entirely written in English, it may be placed anywhere. He said these are "cultural traditions." It is not stated in the Koran, but certain lines can be interpreted differently by different cultures. So the reverence for the Koran that is showed in Pakistan, is not the same as how it is handled in Jordan. He, himself, is the kind of Muslim that treats the Arabic Koran with great reverence and that is how he preaches in the Mosque. Heidi Ginal Heim El Library, K-4 155 Heim Rd.
