We are doing a One Book, One School companion book for our high school drama
department. Over the summer we were all assigned to read: Inherit the Wind. When
school begins we will gather together (grades 9-12) to discuss the book. Then in
October the drama department will produce the play.

We also have mini-one-book-one community projects that include one teacher
(librarians included) who chooses a book and 6-9 students who sign up to read that
book during the summer. There were a variety of titles to chose from and our
students will meet with their "leader" to discuss the book when school starts.

I had hesitantly chosen "A Treasure's Trove by Michael Stadther (the book that had
hidden clues within it describing where actual jewels are hidden around the
country). I was initially told that there might not be an interest in this
one---but my book group was filled completely and I've had email contact with the
students during the summer as we have worked online together to figure out the
clues in the book. I was encouraged that they (juniors and seniors in my group)
were actually excited about the book and that they would be looking for clues and
locations of where the jewels might be hidden. Although I realize that the book
seems rather childish (a fairytale), the puzzles are very luring and even my
college-age son and his girlfriend have been seen fighting over my extra book this
summer! It's been fun!

Our school is considering doing a One Book, One School program this year.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the secondary level? TIA!
