I do something very similar. I also have a crate full of Look & Find, I Spy and Where's Waldo Books. I also have checkers, tic tac toe, dominoes, Barrel of Monkeys, some thinking puzzles, floor puzzles, chess and some fish card games that the students can only use after completing book check out. After go over that they can only do these activities after book exchange and if there are any problems (fighting, arguing, too much noise, etc) the games leave I have had no problems. I even got a compliment during my evaluation that the students knew just what to do when they were finished their checkout tasks. I had a table with paper, markers and stamps, but they left a mess once too many times and it has been put away. It may reappear later. It is very popular and many have asked where it is. I do limit students who forgot their books, they must get a book and read at their seats until 1/2 of the other students have completed checkout otherwise everyone would forget their books so they could play first.
