There there are those that don't / won't consider graphic novels, 
reading a 'too easy' book, or even non-fiction as 'really reading'.....

Or the 'Gorman concept' with the whole book being the only way to read.

But then, I've had a few people, interrupting while in the middle of 
Dickens on a PDA, ask IF I were reading, not WHAT.....

Obviously there are different skills being used while reading v. 
listening, but in either case the ideas are being processed, stored, 
compiled and compared with what has already been processed.  I wonder if 
there has been a studies on retention (type and quantity) caused by 
differences in input.  Anecdotally, I know I can booktalk a book I've 
listened to as well as any I've read and generally the audio was in a 
car, while driving.
