*********************** This message has been scanned for viruses by the InterScan Messaging Security Suite. -HPS Technology ***********-*********** Friends: I'm poised to continue my endless quest for the perfect reference quide to the Animal Kingdom for kids in grades 6-8. I'm looking for a source that's fairly comprehensive, well indexed, fully illustrated, and that has uniformly pithy entries for each animal profiled. While I use a range of so-so sources for projects related to the animal kingdom, none seem to really nail it... Any recommendations? I'm primarily interested in print sources, but would also like to know if you're using any databases that satisfy in this area. Hey: in return for your time, let me recommend my favorite free resource on animals, a web site from the University of Michigan Museum of Zooology called Animal Diversity Web. It seems to get deeper and better every day and it is refreshingly free from distracting advertising. The site lays out each animals classification and discusses the origins of animal's scientific names, so it can be a great resource for typical 6th grade science curricula. Don't lead kids to it who are challenged to classify an animal on their own though: it reveals all! Find it at http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/index.html I look forward to hearing your recommendations.
