Thanks to the almost 80 of you who took the time out of your crazy last days to let me know about your schedule! 95% of you were from NJ, PA or neighboring states. 99% of you were east of the Mississippi. Being a California Girl and now living in a place where we get snow but not many snow days it was enlightening to see that many of you have to plan for NUMEROUS snow days (and some had already had several!). Many also reported that they do get 2 weeks off, but don't return until Jan 9! (With company coming I prefer to have my time before Christmas!) I was amazed at how many had teacher days scheduled for Jan 2 which is the official federal holiday, but many are also going back the 3rd. One person pointed out that it was still better than those in the business world get! Also enlightening was how many of you also have days off in the fall for the Jewish holidays, still have a day off for Columbus day and also Good Friday. Many have a week in February along with a week in April. In addition, there are many east coast districts/states that have 7 inservice days throughout the year. In our district we start just before Labor Day, have Vet's Day, TG and 2 weeks at Christmas. We have 4 days for Prez weekend (one is labeled as a potential snow make up day) and a week in April and Memorial day. We have 3 Learning Improvement Days, 3 late starts and 7 'deemed done' days instead of the inservice days. Some districts called them TRI days (Time, Responsibility and Incentive). What it boils down to is we have the same number of days of pay, but the district acknowledges that we have worked that amount of time with extra stuff we do outside of the school day. I will boldly say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah (or is it Chanukah?) instead of the Happy Holidays that seems to be running rampant with political correctness this year! Have a safe and happy time with your friends and family and see you all back here when we recover!
