Every place I have ever worked I have put warning labels on all the computer monitors in the library. WARNING !!!! (HIGHLIGHTED IN RED) Not everything you read on the Internet is true. I highly recommend this video !!! TITLE : High Tech Hate c1995 (available through WorldCat) OR $129.00 available at: http://www.films.com/Films_Home/Item.cfm/1/6203 I borrowed it from SUNY Stony Brook to use for one of my presentations in Library School. I plan to make a go of it here. Still developing the resources. OPENING SCENE: a high school classroom students in dismay gathered around a computer "Who's writing this stuff ? " Then you go right into these peoples' homes and workplaces and they are telling how they are excited about the Internet and how they can use it to reach more people and recruit them Neo Nazis KKK Then you hear from the ADL and the ACLU : The best way to combat hate speech is with more speech. (They may even mention the ALA ???) CLOSING SCENE: a high school classroom students gathered around a computer The camera zooms in on a picture on the monitor Three or four hooed men with young children standing in front of them The caption reads: : KKK : The next generation I have several links to some articles and various Internet watchdogs, including UK and Canada, from a recent search that is ready for posting but I am not certain the guidelines just yet. Let me know if you are interested or someone just advise me, please.
